What are the challenges faced packaging industry

The packaging is what makes your product stand out. Don't you agree? The packaging is something the customer sees first even before the actual product. It creates the first image of a product in the customers' mind.

The competition to design better packaging is rising day by day. Brands are hiring designers to make their custom boxes stunning, unique, and better than all other companies. To maximize their productivity, the manufacturers in the packaging industry have to look at the challenges faced by this industry.

As the packaging industry is growing, there are a lot of challenges faced by it. So my fellows from the packaging world, here I will be sharing some of these challenges with you.
Rising costs One of the challenges faced by the packaging industry is the rising manufacturing cost. $$$ The brand owners want quality custom boxes at less price. This is quite difficult for the manufacturers to produce quality goods at less cost. Prices of the raw materials are rising day by day, and so is the cost of hiring skilled human resources.

Plastic, cardboard, adhesives, paper, and resins are some of the most common raw materials used by the packaging industry. Prices of the paper and polypropylene used in resins have increased a lot.
Brands are demanding quick turnaround time. This has given rise to demand for faster and more efficient printers in the packaging industry.

These printers help to make custom printed boxes faster. Digital Printing is mostly used for making these custom printed boxes because it lacks plate changeovers. This means packaging companies need to spend money on faster technology.

Transportation of products

The packaging companies have got this big responsibility for delivering products. So, they need to be careful!

It is a big challenge for packaging companies to transport goods without damaging them. Companies have to make sure that the products are transported without breakage, leakage, or getting damaged in any way. Or else it would be a disaster!

These companies have to make a choice regarding the best size shape and weight of the packages. The packages must be easily portable.

Also, they have to make sure that the packaging withstands high and low temperature, UV rays, and moisture during transportation.

In addition, packaging must be sturdy but as light as possible because if the packages are more substantial, then fewer packages will be transported in a container, and that means more transportation cost is needed.

When the products are being transported to different countries, a packaging that can withstand changes in climate is needed.

A product bought on the internet has to travel a lot before it reaches the consumer. That means the packaging of this product has to be strong enough to be able to handle the wear and tear during transportation.

Also, the brands are looking for a unique design and distinguished packaging. Creating unique and distinguished designs also requires new and latest technology for box printing and packaging printing and graphics.

All these things have made the overall manufacturing cost higher for packaging companies and have caused erosion of profits.

Customization challenges

It the era of customization- brands often demand custom packaging. This means every brand needs a different packaging. This is a very challenging task to perform.

It requires highly innovative technology and skilled workers who finish the work efficiently and in time.

Also, considering the nature of the product alterations have to be made in the packaging. If the products are fragile, then more protective packaging material is used whereas if the product is not easily damaged, then a little bit less protective packaging like cardboard boxes is used.

Manufacturers have to ensure that the material used for making cardboard boxes and box printing does not react with the chemicals in the product. For this reason, different packaging is used for different products.

Furthermore, there are three levels of packaging primary, secondary, and tertiary. Primary packaging is what should be appealing to the customers, and secondary, tertiary packaging offers protection.
The designs of all of these packaging are different, so need a lot of effort to be made.

Skilled Labour

Another issue that the packaging industries are currently facing is the lack of a skilled workforce.
The problem is that most of the current employees are reaching retirement age and leaving the industry and package printers and converters have to replace these retired employees retired with younger workers who lack experience in packaging printing and demand higher salaries.

Controlling pollution

Due to ever rising pollution problems, the packaging industry has to face the criticism that it is causing pollution.

This is because once the product is used, the packaging is thrown away by the customer. This Packaging often ends up in oceans and rivers, causing pollution.

These materials are often not recyclable stick wrappers and Aluminium cans. Recyclable material is often very costly, and this creates problems for the manufacturers as they have to use the recyclable material only.

Ending up

These are some challenges faced by our packaging industry. Look at these and start searching for the solutions. There are many ways you can eliminate these problems.
You only need time and effort- every challenge has a solution.
